July 11, 2007 (Press Release) --
Such strong feelings does Californian Dr Philip Denney have on the matter, he regularly (and readily) issues medical certificates which allow cannabis consumers who hold one of his prescriptions, to grow and consume cannabis, unmollestered by state troopers.
Unfortunately, the 'federal' Drug Enforcement Administration don't see things quite so "clear cut", and as such, have a penchant for turning up when the grower least expects a visit, and busting them, and regardless of whether they have the necessary paperwork, or not!
"The conditions necessary to receive a pot-passport?
Dr Denney contemplates the question a while!
"They are many and varied, but include chronic pain, muscle conditions such as painful spasms, depression, PTSO, and bipolar affective disorder."
"About 50% of my recommendations are for chronic pain, including patients suffering with spinal injuries, degenerative bone loss, and accident victims."
Even though Governor Schwarzenegger's State of California (as well as 11 other states), have passed laws allowing medical users to grow and consume cannabis, the federal government fails to recognize any legitimate medicinal use for 'nature's most natural cure-all'.
The feds have also managed to make it impossible for state legislators to supercede federal law, making this truly an immoveable object in the grand scheme of things.
Dr.Denney acknowledges that cannabis is a drug, but seriously questions the federal government's decision to place cannabis at the top of its danger list as a Schedule I, along with heroin and opiates, and above cocaine and methamphetamines.
“Absolutely not is it a Schedule I drug,” Dr Denney said. “If they were rational, it would be on Schedule III, where I could phone it in to a pharmacy.”
Another cannabis issue Denney says is a “tragedy,” is taking children away from registered medical cannabis users.
"Its like a trade off".
"A life without pain, or a life without your children!"
“Taking children away from medical cannabis patients is an egregious abuse of power,” he said. “There is no evidence to support such an action.
They don't take children away for secondary tobacco smoke and we know that is dangerous!!”

A practicing Sacremento Doctor has spoken out at what he calls the "irrationality" of cannabis laws in the US.
