July 17, 2007 (Press Release) --
Editor Freya Heims blames the delay on "unforseen circumstances" in final stages of the proof reading and editing of the book.
"Michael Keene's book is ready for publication but we have decided to hold back for at least 14 days to give ourselves time to iron out some typesetting issues", say Miss Heims in a comment.
The book takes a blunt view of what goes on in the head of most teen age boys, through the eyes of Nigel, a confused 18 year old and has been described by the publisher as the classic coming of age story.
The story begins just after Nigel's 18th birthday, the summer is about to start and he finds himself at a cross road. With a friend, a camper van and lots of spirit Nigel sets out on a camping holiday in France and to his delight they stumble across a nudist camp site.
Frustrated, Nigel finds his confusion about his own lifestyle constantly put to the test, only he can't seem to decide whether his feelings are normal or not. Changing his mind from one encounter to another, Nigel and Mike travel in their camper van from campsite to campsite, doing what teenagers do best.
When asked about the delay, Mr Keene stated that "this is a manuscript that has had a special place in my heart for a long time, and 14 days or a month one way or the other makes no difference to me."
About his motivation for writing "through the mist" Michael explaines that "It was on a return trip to France that I learned that one of my assistants [who will remain nameless] was wrestling with his own sexuality. He had found it impossible to approach the subject with his parents and friends. I felt privileged to be confided in.
From that trip onwards I knew that there was a book there to be written. The bringing together of a young man's problems and emotions, and the open mindedness of some of the learned naturists, blended well for a brilliant humorous book. Yet in a way the book is also an informative and one that should at least be read for a better understanding of both lifestyles.
