Rise Health & Educational Welfare Association Larkana (HEAL) opened a Thalassaemia Care Centre Haji Altaf Hussain Unar Minister Power & Relief & Mohammad Bakhash Arijo Zila Nazim Larkana Inauguration the Centre on Saturday 14th July @ Opposite Main Gate Civil Hospital Larkana.
Haji Altaf Hussain Unar Minister Power & Relief said that laws would soon be enacted in the province to check Thalassaemia. Speaking at a opening of Heal Thalassaemia Care Centre, he said that Sindh was the first province to make laws for regulating Blood transfusion and it would be the first province to enact anti-Thalassaemia law.
The Minister asked the medical experts to give the government their valuable suggestions in this regard so that the proposed laws could be finalized at the earliest.
Mohammad Bakhash Arijo Zila Nazim Larkana said that the District government would utilize all available resources to create awareness among the masses against this disease, besides providing treatment facilities to the Thalassaemia patients
He said maintained underlined the need of creating awareness to combat this disease and said that HEAL was focusing not only on treatment but on prevention aspects as well.
He said that precautionary measures were very important for the prevention of this disease. Regarding pre-marriage Thalassaemia test, he said that the best possible steps would be ensured in this regard, while taking care of the prevalent social norms.
Gulsher Salih Mangi HEAL president in his address lauded the services of the Sindh government for law making regarding Safe Blood Transfusion.
He said that Murtaza Blood Bank only Registered Blood Bank in Larkana District also working under patronage of HEAL from 3 years and HEAL Thalassaemia Care Centre used to provide services to 105 patients of Thalassaemia around the Larkana & Kamber District.
He maintained that treatment scenario for Thalassaemia in Pakistan was not encouraging there was dearth of Thalassaemia centers that could not accommodate all the patients and NGOs mainly shared burden and there was little support of government
He pointed out that HEAL has launched the District wide prevention program with a mission,” THALASEEMIA FREE LARKANA”. In the first stage the extended families of the existing pool of registered Thalassaemia patients in the Heal Thalassaemia Care Centre will be screened by a Blood test (Hemoglobin electrophoresis) to identify Thalassaemia carriers.
He said that samples will be collected from all over the Districts and tests will be conducted from Husaini Blood Bank Karachi free of cost. He pointed out that post-test counseling in these families that two carriers should not marry each other, is the hallmark of this prevention program.
He said our mission is eradicate Thalassaemia from interior Sindh especially Larkana, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Kamber Shahdad Kot Districts and some Districts of Balouchistan.our organization also arranging the treatment of Desfral Injection through Infusion Pump to control Iron which remains in Patient’s Body (Provided to Patients Free of Cost). While it is realized fact that treatment is very costly.
Dr. Ghullam Murtaza Pathan, Dr. Ghullam Shabir Shaikh and Heal General secretary Abdul Fatah Lashari, warned if immediate action was not taken for the prevention of Thalassaemia, it would spread like an epidemic.
