July 20, 2007 (Press Release) --
Beijing, P.R. China, July 10, 2007 — PROGNOZ, a provider of Business Intelligence solutions, today announced that one of its technology and data analysis experts recently attended the “International Workshop on Energy Data & Forecasting System” hosted by the Office of the National Energy Leading Group, a department of the Chinese government. The purpose of the forum—held July 3, 2007, in Beijing—was to discuss the creation of a system that will track data on China’s growing energy industry and use that data to predict energy trends in the nation.
Vladimir Eskin, managing director of International operations for PROGNOZ, was one of eight foreign experts invited to the workshop. Other foreign interests represented at the meeting included the global energy giant BP, the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the U.S. Department of Energy.
Mr. Eskin was asked to attend the workshop based on PROGNOZ’s previous work developing technology applications for global energy markets. He presented a case study highlighting how the PROGNOZ 5 Platform, an all-in-one Business Intelligence solution, has helped government agencies and private companies analyze data and forecast trends in the Russian energy industry. The case study also described PROGNOZ’s recent implementation of a system that analyzes and models the renewable energy market in the U.S.
“With the economic growth that China is currently experiencing, sophisticated tools for monitoring, analyzing and forecasting energy related issues are absolutely critical,” said Mr. Eskin. “I applaud the Chinese government for ‘cherry picking’ this group of elite foreign experts to help the nation identify the best practices for building analytical and forecasting systems for energy data.”
The Office of the National Leading Group is a department of the National Development and Reform Commission. The organization monitors China’s energy industry; reviews major policies relating to energy, energy development and conservation; forecasts and provides early warning for major energy issues; and monitors energy security and emergency preparedness.
