July 23, 2007 (Press Release) --
Children are introduced to creatures and battles that are both scary and magical. All the monsters and creatures are unique to this series.
The first story is based around Kyle, a young girl who discovers Zirconia with the help of her fairy guide. After over 100 years of peace there is a disturbance in the kingdom of Zirconia. The elf and fairy elders send a group on a mission during which they encounter the Zorgoyles, meet a Pentathon who joins them, and battle with a ten-legged saber tooth tiger spider. The scene is set for the second story which introduces another three more children. The legends then continue, growing in intensity over all of Zirconia.
About the Author: Jo Melling works as a director in the NHS. She lives in Oxfordshire with her husband, two children, two dogs and three cats. Jo started writing down ideas for her books several years ago to aid her with bedtime stories for her children.
Excerpt from the book:
"As Kyle looked down she could see Zorgoyles appearing between the mossy damp rocks in the gully, their scaly, greeny grey skin glistened as the light touched it. Their warty faces lit up with expectation, as they caught sight of the fairies, green drool dripped from their slobbering mouths at the thought of a juicy dinner. They moved quickly (because they were hungry) growling, belching and pushing each other out of the way, slipping on each others slimy green drool.
The sight of this filled the fairies with fear, shakily Poppy shouted “NOW!!” and they dropped fairy dust onto the Zorgoyles. Poppy began the chant.
“Retardez, descend, retardez, descend” repeated poppy over and over.
The Zorgoyles hearing this made one last scrabble for the food.
Chestnut, Poppy and Kyle were the nearest, one Zorgoyle lunged at them. The two fairies lurched to the side to avoid the Zorgoyle’s grasp, their sweating nervous hands slipped. Kyle let out a screech as her hands slipped out of the fairies grasp.
Kyle began to fall through the air. The Zorgoyle’s seeing her fall, immediately jumped up onto the rocks to catch their meal. Luckily the chant worked as the fairy dust began to land which made their jumps smaller and slower.
The fairies were stunned until Dandelion yelled “Quick, catch her!”
