For_Immediate_Release:

July 24, 2007 (Press Release) -- Kaminski Auctions, one of Massachusetts’ premier antiques and fine art auction houses, announces their August 11 Maritime Auction. This exciting auction features a vast array of maritime antiques and a spectacular collection of vintage ship models. The auction takes place under the large tent at Kaminski Auctions on Saturday, August 11 commencing at 10:30 AM with previews on Friday from 10 AM - 6 PM and Saturday from 8 – 10:30 AM. The auction features live online bidding through eBay Live auctions, and the complete catalog can be viewed online in advance of the sale. Kaminski Auctions is located at 564 Cabot Street, Beverly MA. For more information visit www.KaminskiAuctions.com or call 978-927-2223.

Auction goers will enjoy a diverse lineup of nautical treasures including binnacles, lightship beacons, wheels on pedestals, lanterns, spyglasses and bells. A massive ship’s steering station (Est. $7,000-$9,000) is sure to attract bidders. This beautiful brass station is fitted with port and starboard indicator arrows, intricate valves and levers and a stunning six spoke wheel with turned handles.

Numerous nautical paintings, 19th Century navigational charts and a fine selection of prints and lithographs also grace the auction block. Of note is a painting of a French Line ocean liner (Est. $10,000-$12,000) by Sandy Hook (aka Georges Taboureau 1879-1960). Hook, best known for his maritime shipping posters, was appointed the official artist of the French Navy in 1947.

Also up for bid is a notable cache of antique ship models ranging from sleek clipper ships to elegant steam yachts. A late 20th Century model of the Schooner Yacht Atlantic (Est. $2,500-$3,500) highlights this category. This incredibly detailed model includes ventilators, engine room lights, cleats, an anchor and a full suit of stitched linen sails.

More seaworthy than its "display-only" counterparts is a fleet of vintage pond yachts. These model sailing ships are designed to race over small, enclosed bodies of water and were a popular pastime from the 1920s-1940s. One specimen is an early 20th Century 60" Pond Yacht (Est. $2,500-3,500) complete with a suit of five finely stitched sails and polished brass fittings.

"We’re very excited to host our August auction in a region with such a rich maritime history," comments Frank Kaminski. "This collection of nautical consignments will definitely resonate with coastal homeowners and maritime collectors alike."
