July 24, 2007 (Press Release) --
VETERANS PUT POLITICS ASIDE
TO RAISE FUNDS FOR
WOUNDED SOLDIERS AND VETS CLINICS
The spirit of bi-partisanship has broken out in the heated presidential campaign battles of Iowa. The Democratic Veterans Caucus, which is an arm of the Democratic Party, is holding a fund raiser to assist wounded soldiers and also veterans, according to Bob Krause, who is chair of the group. Net proceeds from the “political” event will not go for politics, but instead will go half for soldiers and families at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany and half for Veterans Affairs Medical Centers and Clinics throughout Iowa.
Krause is asking Republican and independent service members and veterans to attend.
“From the day you put on the uniform, you learn to take care of your fellow soldier. This is no different. Black, white, Hispanic, Republican, Democrat, Independent; we are all in this together. You may or may not like our politics, but you cannot deny that we are comrades in arms,” said Krause.
The Democratic Veterans' Caucus has invited all Democratic Presidential candidates to the Iowa Veterans’ Presidential Extravaganza. A number have accepted and a number will be sending high level surrogates. It will be held on Monday, August 13 is not about politics – it is about helping those who have worn the uniform,” stated Krause. The location will be at the Machinists Hall at 2000 Walker in Des Moines, and the vent will run from 3 PM to 7 PM in order to accommodate veterans and their families that will be going top the State Fair. The cost of tickets is $10 per person, $15 per couple, and accompanied children are free.
Landstuhl is the location that seriously injured American soldiers are Medivaced to after initial stabilization in theater. Soldiers come in with no clothes and no gear because of the circumstances of the injuries. Immediate family members are authorized travel by some extended family members are not. Money provided to Veterans Centers and Clinics in Iowa will be given to the chaplain's office to be distributed where there are special needs.
