Pop surrealism in a children's book? At first thought it seems to be a strange combination, but not to it's creator. According to VoodooVelvet, the illustrator of the children's book "BLOT" the combination is anything but strange. "The surreal is closer to the natural state of children" she says, "They have no preconceived notions about the world and their imaginations are open to all possibilities." This book, and pop surrealism as an art form are unique in the art world as they provide a visual feast for the senses while being viewer centered. This means that while pop surrealism can contain a message or moral it is more oriented toward the viewer and his interpretation. This book was crafted in reverse of the traditional picture book method. The pictures were created without words, capable of telling a story on their own. The writer added the text as a finishing touch. The result is a work that contains a traditional moral story while allowing room for the reader to assign his own feelings and values as well. "BLOT" is about an inkblot man who leaves his dreams behind when he gets distracted by the trappings of everyday life. The story is his adventure to re-claim them. An excellent message that naturally compliments pop surreal art. Written for children but enjoyable by anyone, "BLOT" is sure to become a favorite.
