July 30, 2007 (Press Release) --
Japanologist/author Boye Lafayette De Mente say that the astounding transformation of tiny, resource-poor Japan into the world’s second largest economy in less than 30 years was due in large part to the ongoing influence of the ancient samurai code of ethics—a code that produced the most skilled swordsmen the world has ever seen, and now makes the Japanese formidable competitors in business.
The most famous combat strategist in Japanese history was Musashi Miyamoto, a samurai warrior who lived from 1584 to 1645. Musashi fought his first duel when he was 13 years old, killing a veteran warrior more than twice his age. By the time he was 29, he had killed over 60 other warriors in duels to the death, and was a legend in his own time.
Just before he died, Musashi recorded his philosophy, strategies and tactics in a short treatise entitled Go Rin Sho (Go Reen Show)— or “Book of Five Rings.”
Noted Japanologist and author Boyé Lafayette De Mente has extracted the fundamentals of Musashi’s tactics from this esoteric little book and explained them in the modern context of business, politics and war.
Musashi’s strategies and tactics for winning—capsulated in "Samurai Strategies" by author De Mente—are as valid today as they were in 17th century Japan, and provide valuable insights for anyone in any field of endeavor—from business, war and sports to art, love and politics.
Among the more compelling topics in the book: The Illusion of Form; The Power of Emptiness; The Power of Silence; Seeing What Cannot be Seen; and The Head of a Rat and the Neck of a Bull.
"Samurai Strategies" is available from Amazon.com and all other major book dealers.
