Keeping statistics on Lead Generation efforts is vital. Without using tracking to compare the success of different lead generation campaigns, time and money is being wasted.

(Free-Press-Release.com) August 1, 2007 -- A mistake online business owners often make, particularly early in their internet marketing careers, is not keeping track of their lead generation statistics.

Tracking the effectiveness of advertising, email and other lead generation campaigns is necessary to know what is working and what isn’t.

Lead Generation through email should be tested and tracked on a weekly and monthly basis. Statistics should be kept on open rates, click-through rates and conversion rates.

Open rate is the percentage of emails that were sent that were actually opened. A good open rate is somewhere between 1% to 5%. If statistics show that emails aren’t being opened, they indicate that the subject line is not effective, and therefore the lead generation email is not effective.

Click-through rate is the percentage of links within the email that are clicked on. If leads are not clicking on the links within the email once they have opened it, it indicates that the copy within the email is not as effective as it should be.

Conversion rate is the number of leads that click through to the sales page from the email and actually make a purchase. If leads are clicking through from the email link, but not purchasing, that is an indication that the sales page is not effective.

So, tracking statistics in lead generation is vital to create a long-term successful business. Without statistics it is impossible to know what lead generation campaigns should be continued and which ones should be dropped.
