Al-Amin Transferred to Federal Custody
Muslim leader seeks restoration of religious rights
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) August 2, 2007 --
The Community Masjid of Atlanta would like to acknowledge that Imam Jamil Al-Amin formerly known as H. Rap Brown (former head of the Student National Coordinating Committee-SNCC) has been transferred into Federal Custody on August 2, 2007. It is the prayers of our members that Imam Jamil will be treated more humanely than he was in the Ga. Correctional System. He has been denied his basic human rights of religious practice. Imam Jamil has long asked that if the state of Georgia is incapable of affording him basic human rights of worship with fellow Muslim congregants, then he would prefer to be transferred to a federal facility that would hopefully allow him to fulfill his religious duties. The state of Ga. Has held Imam Jamil on a 23 hour a day lock-down status for the past five years under the guise that he is “high profile inmate”. He has not been allowed to attend the weekly Friday congregational prayers nor commune with his fellow congregants. Imam Jamil has consistently maintained his innocence of the charges in which he was convicted. He has garnered support for his freedom all over the world, and has been the subject of many rallies and vigils since his conviction.
It is our prayers that Imam Jamil be afforded the right of worship as he continues to launch his appeals of his conviction.
