United States of America (Press Release) August 6, 2007 --
It's a bird! It's a plane! It's an overweight guy in a Star Trek uniform stalking his favorite author!
Wait, what?
Maybe that wasn't what DC Comics had in mind when Superman was born, but it is definitely the crowd they had in mind. And you can be a part of that crowd this weekend at ArmadilloCon 29.
"ArmadilloCon is a great place for fans to relax, meet their favorite authors, attend panels and, basically, geek out," said Programming Coordinator Kimm Antell. "There's a little bit of everything for everyone. We have a dealers' room, art show and open gaming as well as over 80 panels about anything science-fiction, fantasy, horror and mystery related."
Starting this Friday (August 10) at 5:00 pm, fans have the opportunity to meet some of the big names of current genre authors. (Joe R. Lansdale, James P. Hogan, Bradley Denton and Maureen McHugh, just to name a few.) And where else do you have a chance to sit on a comfortable couch with one of the guests of honor and debate about the ending of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows?
Speaking of guests of honor, this year's ArmadilloCon has five of them: Louise Marley, Gary A. Lippincott, Sharyn November, Patty Wells and Austin's own, Howard Waldrop. And there is a cast of 100 program participants that will be on hand to make this one of the most successful conventions in recent memory.
A couple of the panels to look forward to are: "A History of Sci-Fi Vernacular", "Professor Farnsworth's Doomsday Device", "Hollywood and Sci-Fi: The 'Romance' Continues", "Low budget horror DVD's", "Teen Fiction: Sex, Drugs and Urban Fantasy" and "Before and After Xena and Buffy" as well as the ever popular "Fannish Feud" and "Pictionary". To end the convention, Howard Waldrop will do a reading from 4-5 pm on Sunday which is always a packed house and should never be missed.
If your inner geek has been looking for an opportunity to be around like people or you just want to find out what a sci-fi convention is all about, come to ArmadilloCon 29. You won't be disappointed!
