Avon Blogger says Goodbye, Avon with an eBay auction

(Free-Press-Release.com) August 10, 2007 -- Birdie Jaworski, known for her often-hilarious Avon Lady blog, Beauty Dish, has quit Avon and is selling off her Mrs. Albee President's Club award in an eBay auction. Jaworski and her blog have been quoted and featured in the Wall Street Journal and Time Magazine as well as other media outlets as an example of an unofficial corporate blogger's effects on sales and internet corporate identity.

In an essay posted to the premier womens' blogging community, BlogHer.org, where she is a contributing editor, Jaworski notes that some Avon Reps can make a living, but she, like many, could not:

"Even though I sold at Honor Society level, I couldn't meet my bills. I lived close to the land, didn't spend money on dinners out, didn't buy new clothes, didn't treat my boys to weekend movies... I sat at the kitchen table, a years' worth of Avon receipts at my ready, and calculated that I earned less than minimum wage after I subtracted the cost of business, the cost of brochures, samples, delivery bags, business cards, labels, paper for fliers."

Jaworski's blog, which includes "brutally honest" Avon product reviews, tips and ideas for Avon Reps, as well as stories about life in the Avon Lady trenches, influenced tens of thousands of Avon Reps and women (and men) who considered joining Avon's sale force. Avon did not recognize Jaworski's blog, though some insiders and members of Avon's Customer Service center posted that Jaworski's blogs were considered required reading in some management circles.

Jaworski ended her Beauty Dish blog with a funny parody song she recorded to the tune of "Ghost Riders in the Sky," called "Ghost Products in the Sky." Jaworski wrote a memoir of her time as an Avon Lady, and is shopping her book through a literary agent.

Jaworski is now selling off her Avon sales award on eBay. The auction ends the evening of Friday, August 10th.
