FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) August 12, 2007 -- Vytorin is the trade name for the generic combination of ezetimibe and simvastatin, a prescription drug used to control cholesterol.

Vytorin alone is not capable of controlling heart disease, but Vytorin taken as part of a whole-body cholesterol reduction plan can prove very effective. Vytorin use should also be combined with proper exercise, diet, weight control, and possibly use of other medications. Vytorin is most effective when taken precisely as prescribed by a doctor, and when all instructions for drug use and lifestyle enhancements are followed.

Vytorin Precautions

Before a patient starts on a protocol of Vytorin, they should discuss all current medication usage and medical conditions to be sure Vytorin is safe for them. Specifically, patients should tell their doctor:

• Of any allergies they have, particularly allergy to "statin" drugs
• About any active liver disease, or history of liver or kidney disease
• Of history of heart disease
• About metabolic disorders, poorly controlled diabetes, and underactive thyroid

• About all serious medical conditions, including trauma, surgery, serious illness, blood disorders, seizures or low blood pressure

Pregnant women are cautioned not to take Vytorin. Simvastatin may harm unborn babies. Women of child-bearing age are strongly urged to take birth control while on Vytorin. Any woman who is, or thinks she may be pregnant should call their doctor right away.

Side effects and allergy may occur with Vytorin use; patients should become familiar with these symptoms, and limit alcohol consumption as it may exacerbate side effects caused by Vytorin.

Vytorin Dosages

Average dosages of Vytorin start at pill combination of 10/20—that is, 10 mg ezetimibe and 20 mg simvastatin. The dose is taken once each day in the evening (with or without food). Lower doses of 10/10 combination may be appropriate for lesser cholesterol problems, and more aggressive treatment for higher levels may be given at combinations of 10/40.

If the desired response is not achieved, the dosage may be incrementally increased up to a maximum of 10/80 daily.

If a dose of Vytorin is missed, it should be taken as soon as remembered. If it is close to the time of the next dose, the missed dose should be skipped and the regular schedule resumed to avoid overdosing. There are no specifically identified effects of overdosing on Vytorin; however, overdose of any drug has the potential to be dangerous. When an overdose is suspected, patients should contact their doctor and poison control center.

Vytorin should be stored at room temperature (68-77 degrees) away from moisture and light, and always kept away from children and pets.
