CBL advises that computer users with water-damaged hard drives or removable storage media:
Do not attempt to use or turn on the water-damaged hardware
Do not open the water-damaged media

Do not place the water-logged media in a freezer
Do not agitate the hardware in an attempt to rid it of water.
If data backups are kept on CDs or DVDs offsite, the risk of data loss is dramatically reduced. However, if business and individuals discover flood-damaged PCs and servers, they should not throw in the towel. When taking assessment of their losses, computer users should know data is very resilient and recoverable.
