EMF means “electro magnetic force.” Both these, electric and magnetic fields, surround electric devices, including cell phones. The electric fields are produced by voltage which increase in strength as the voltage increases. Magnetic fields, however, result from the flow of current through wires or electrical devices. They too increase in strength as the current increases. When electrical equipment is turned ON, with the current flowing, a magnetic field is produced. Electric fields, however, are present even when the equipment is switched OFF, as long as it remains connected to the power source.
