United States of America (Press Release) August 22, 2007 --
Britney Spears album, Oops I Did it Again, sold over 500,000 copies on its first day of release, according to Jive Records. First-day sales always equal hard-core fans. So, just where did they all go? Britney Spears fans wait with concern. They contemplate the future and struggle to understand the baffling past. So, You Don’t ‘Get’ Britney Spears Fans? One word: Joy. It was always about the joy for Britney Spears fans. The joy that Britney Spears brought them through her music and dancing.
This is not a newspaper blurb or a tabloid smear campaign. I am not a forty-something male Webmaster trying to make a pretty penny off Britney. I am writing on behalf of all the true Britney Spears fans. The ones who stood in line to buy her CD’s, waited for hours in pouring rain to get a glimpse of the starlet in her prime, and screamed until their throat ran dry at one of her many concerts. I am writing, quite simply, as a thoughtful fan-one of the millions who have appeared to, off the face of the earth….disappear.
What Went Wrong: Britney Thrown to the Wolves
Britney’s fatal error…not being the perfect human that her image proclaimed her to be. Or really, trying to be that perfect image in the first place. Suddenly Britney was a smoker, who liked to use four letter words, might’ve cheated on Justin with their choreographer and maybe she wasn’t a virgin, gasp. At the first sign of weakness, the media wolves pounced.
Where does the Yellow Brick Road Lead?
Let us think about that daunting question: the future? She needs to be honest with her fans before they can ever find her again. If she trys lying to herself, and to them-she will never be accepted back into their hearts. Its different now, but that flame that flickers inside of you has not burnt out (and yes that was almost a Titanic quote).
Britney’s Comeback
Here is how it should happen. Get clean, whatever that may mean to you. Then talk publicly to your fans, forget the naysayers trying to get rich off of your downfall, talk to the fans-they are all that matters. Do an interview with Carson Daly or even Rosie O’Donnell-someone who really knows you, your fans and your music. Please don’t sit down with Barbara Walters, Diane Sawyer or Matt Lauer (Again). Tell it all. Talk about your troubles, clear up the rumors and talk a lot about your new life as a mom. Then release an album. Make your album a spiritual release for you, like Madonna’s Ray of Light. Make it an album the heals. Call it The Healing, I won’t ask for any royalties. There are a lot of people out there suffering just like you have and this album could be a life changing experience both for you and for them. And of course, do it your way-make it sexy, fun, spiritual, dramatic and lively. I promise I’d buy a copy…heck I’d buy three.
