According to David J Grant, author of a new novel called The Treaty, he regularly listens to the early morning breakfast program on BBC Radio 5 Live hosted by presenters Shelagh Fogarty and Nicky Campbell.
While Grant was writing, over the weeks he found he could – in his sub-conscious - imagine his character Caroline Lovelace-Jones, MI-21 Bureau Chief, speaking with the same accent as Shelagh Fogarty.

As I wrote the dialogue Shelagh's voice came through – she had got into my head - probably because of having had the radio on in the background while I write, fitting that character perfectly. It didn’t happen with any other person in the book"
Grant went on to say he had no idea what Shelagh looked like; her voice matched how he imagined the feisty Miss Lovelace-Jones speaking. He hoped Shelagh wouldn’t be offended by him admitting to this and promised Caroline was a likeable character in the story.
The Treaty is a new adventure/thriller based on Britain’s drug dealing history and may open a debate on the degree of control and influence governments and individuals have controlling the markets for illegal drugs.
In the story a historic narcotics treaty is discovered designed to control the sale and distribution of drugs on a global scale. Only later is it realized this accord is still in force today. Managed by establishment figures in both America and Britain (including a senior British Royal) who manage to keep their own politicians in blissful ignorance.
Based on true research conducted by the United Nations, the global illegal drugs industry is said to be worth as much as $300 billion dollars a year* at retail price levels. Other research gives lower estimates anywhere between $50m and $300m per year. What is not disputed is that 92% of all opiates now come from Afghanistan, Making Grant’s story all the more believable.
