(Free-Press-Release.com) September 6, 2007 --
Major League Ballhawk, John Witt, has caught over 2800 baseballs at Major League Games. 99 of those balls are game home runs.
"I got my first ball 30 years ago at a White Sox game in Chicago and it has been an obsession ever since", said Witt. "I have been stuck on 99 game home runs for over a year and it is getting frustrating", he added.
Witt has caught almost 4850 baseballs at professional baseball games over the past 30 years. He credits the start of the obsession to his father and Baseballs promotion guru Mike Veeck.
Witt told us with a big grin, "Mike (Veeck) got my dad media credentials and we had to find something to do at Comiskey Park while he took photos when we were kids!"
Witt retreived his first home run ball at Old Comiskey Park in 1986. It was a home run hit by Oakland's Mike Davis to the upper deck in left field.
Since 1986 Witt has caught several milestone home run balls as well. Here is the short list of the "good ones":
Bob Boone's 100th career HR
Dante Bichette's 1st ML HR
Kevin Mitchell HR in the 1989 NLCS
Ron Kittle's 7th Roof Shot HR - Last Roof HR at Old Comiskey Park
Dave Winfield's 450th
Sammy Sosa's 61st HR in 1998
Derek Jeter HR in game 3 of the 2003 ALCS before the "Brawl"
Miguel Ojeda HR during the 2006 World Baseball Classic
Witt finished with this, "I really hope that HR #100 is a Barry Bond's HR. I will see the Giants at Dodger Stadium at the end of the season and it could be the last HR of his career!"
Witt has his own website at http://www.majorleagueballhawk.com and he also keeps a blog at http://www.majorleagueballhawk.mlblogs.com
