Australia, Commonwealth of (Press Release) September 19, 2007 --
The festival of cultures and colours passed with great success. Music, dance, costume, all shown what greatness lies in the western part of Sydney. Within the festival were a dynamic group of volunteers, the Drug Free Ambassadors, an initiative started by the Church of Scientology, who swore in public to lead a drug-free life.

208 pledges were made at this festival and there was extremely good feedback. A Mother with 3 kids in th age of 3, 6 and 9 came and all did the pledge. Mother said she and kids would have their father stll with them if he would have known better about the harmfull effects of drugs, but he is no longer with them due to heroin and methadone. Another social worker came and said he is dealing with drug cases every day and is trying to get people off drugs and that includes giving examples of how drugs ruin poeple's lives.

Volunteer David Rootes was a key player as Mt Druitt is his hometown and he is very active in making a better community throught this campaign. He gave drug booklets to the PCYC, City Council (even Stephen Bali Councilor for Ward 4) signed the drug free pledgeboard and then he spoke to group on how to promote it. Others came with ideas of getting further activities going with local community groups and even working out a plan to implement anti-drug activities throughout Mt Druitt on a large scale and doing a special print run of 10 different drug booklets for Mt Druitt and surrounding areas itself. Over 800 pieces of anti-drug promotion went out and the goodwill was abundant.

Spokesman Cyrus Brooks said: "Mt Druitt is great and the volunteers were ecstatic at the response. We love coming out here and meeting with everybody and get such great support. Humanitarian and drug researcher L. Ron Hubbard said 'save the child and you save the nation' and that's what we are doing."
