United States of America (Press Release) September 21, 2007 --
Hollywood, CA – September 15, 2007 – Comedy Workshops has announced the release of Comedy Career in a Box, the first fully-interactive DVD set made specifically for aspiring standup comics who want to quit their day jobs and make money from being funny.
Judy Carter, author of Standup Comedy: The Book (Dell Publishing, 1989) and The Comedy Bible (Simon and Schuster, 2001), produced the six-hour DVD package while using the same techniques found in her Famous Hollywood Comedy Workshops, which have seen the talents of Tom Shadyac (producer of Evan Almighty, Ace Ventura), The Tonight Show with Jay Leno regular Kira Soltanavich and The View co-host Sherri Shepherd, among hundreds of other performers.
“A lot of people have had that moment when they’re watching a comedian on television, and they turn to a friend and say - Hey I’m funnier than that guy,” Carter said. “Most of the time they’re probably right, but they don’t know how to take being funny at the water cooler and make it work onstage. That’s where Comedy Career in a Box comes in.”
The four-disc package focuses on the joke-writing process, performance techniques and potential career paths for comedians. Comedy Career in a Box also features 18 Hollywood Heavy-Hitters, including casting directors, television producers, club bookers, agents and managers, who divulge industry secrets that enable comics to avoid career pitfalls and maximize their opportunities.
“We were able to assemble an all-star group of industry professionals to share their knowledge of the entertainment landscape,” Carter said. “If you tried to contact these people yourself, you’d be hard-pressed to get a word out before their assistants hung up the phone. With Comedy Career in a Box, the viewer gets to hear these heavy-hitters speak candidly about what it takes to really make it.”
Carter acknowledges that Comedy Career in a Box may have an adverse affect on the nation’s workforce, but insists that even those interested in comedy as a hobby will benefit. “You can still invite your boss to a performance and watch him sweat it out while the audience hoots and hollers,” Carter said. “Maybe he’ll even give you a raise.”

Experts say Judy Carter’s Comedy Career in a Box is the driving force behind the new workforce trend, which could spell the end for middle management
