United Kingdom of Great Britain & N. Ireland (Press Release) September 27, 2007 --
Travel Collection is offering their customers an opportunity to give something back to the communities they visit while on holiday. The name of the scheme is appropriately titled ‘Giving Something Back’ and gives a refreshing new outlook to the world of tourism.
It is undeniable that tourism has come to benefit many poor countries around the world. For example, Thailand has become a significantly richer country over recent years due to a sudden increase in the number of people longing for a glimpse of its beautiful beaches.
Unfortunately, mass tourism can also come at a cost to undeveloped countries who don’t know how to handle the crowds of people. This is why the Travel Collection has launched a new scheme where customers can get an insight into the countries they visit and develop an understanding about the way they are run.
‘Giving Something Back’ will work in conjunction with community partnerships, local schools and environmental projects. Each scheme will be unique and individually tailored to a local community’s needs so that they can benefit substantially from the work being done.
The way in which Travel Collection plan to run this programme is to involve an optional excursion for customers on their package holidays so that they can see the work that is already being done through the project. Some of the proceeds from these excursions will go directly to the project in questions which means that visitors will literally be able to see where their money is going.
On top of this Travel Collection will raise the money that has been raised by their customers on the excursions. This is because it is felt that this way the communities that are hosting the outings will directly benefit from the visits they are getting from tourists.
The first project that is going to take place is going to be in Habarana which is a village in Sri Lanka. Customers who are taking part on the Elephants and Spices tour will be able to see and contribute to improving the quality of life within that community.
