United States of America (Press Release) September 30, 2007 --
A progressive Orange County, CA company has started offering FREE pole dance lessons and events to military wives.
Did you put yourself through college pole dancing? Collette Kakuk, a fit and vivacious 38 year old single mother and entrepreneur with a top tier MBA has heard the question countless times. One year ago she founded OC Pole Fitness, a company that teaches women the art of pole dance as a means to tap into sensuality AND get fit. And, the answer is no...she didn't pole dance her way through college. She actually put herself through college by joining the military, and now she has found a special way to support our troops.
Kakuk, who served 8 years in the Army National Guard and who was raised in a military family knows first-hand the sacrifice military families make. She recently launched a program providing FREE events to military wives of neighboring Camp Pendleton...and the response has been overwhelming. Military women whose husbands have been overseas for 7 months or more have learned to slither, twist, and spin...and enjoy the challenge, fun and empowerment that comes with such a sensual form of exercise.
"I can't wait for my husband to come home" said one wife. Three other military wives were so intent on attending the first program offered by OC Pole Fitness that they brought their children, having no other childcare options with all of their husbands at sea.
"This is a very different concept than the one that has been taboo for so long. Take away raucous men, alcohol, and dollar bills, and we have a totally different concept here. The women in my classes come to escape some of the inordinate pressure they have in their daily lives, and they can get fit by doing so. We are so happy to give them this gift. It makes them feel great, and when their husbands come home, they have something fun and beautiful to share."
The next event is scheduled for October 6th in the Aliso Viejo, CA studio, which with Brazilian cherry hardwood floors, velvet drapes, and seven gleaming 14 foot high stainless steel poles isn't your ordinary fitness studio. Kakuk says a large turnout is expected...then she sheepishly grins and says several wives are expecting their husbands back in the next two weeks.
