In their very first fundraising effort, the women who make up the group known as the Baby Boomer Diva Web of Fame have donated $500 to a charity fundraising event hosted by actress Nancy Cartwright. The second annual event, known as Monte Carlo Night, was held at Cartwright’s Northridge, CA home on September 29th.
“I received an invitation for the fundraiser but couldn’t go because of another commitment,” says Beverly Mahone, Creator and Founder of the Baby Boomer Diva Web of Fame. Because of my association with Nancy from college, I wanted to do something. When I presented it to the group, they were overwhelmingly in favor of making a donation.”
Mahone says even though they haven’t been together very long as a group, they wanted to do something to let people know they are not just a bunch of middle-aged women being showcased on a website. “We want folks to know we are on the move and trying to make a difference and, between all of us, we have a number of causes we intend to support as time goes on.” The Baby Boomer Diva Web of Fame is made up of women from Ohio, California, Texas, Arkansas, North Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, Indiana and as far away as Australia.
Mahone says the idea to establish the Web of Fame was a way to recognize baby boomer women, who tend to be noticed less as they get older. “By the time we reach 40 years of age, we are in the prime of our lives. We’ve overcome obstacles. We’re more focused and ready to take on new challenges.”
Diva member Ora Stearns-Smith, who lives in California, represented the group at the gala. Proceeds from the evening benefit the Devonshire Pals Youth Center for at-risk children.
