Companion Comics, a new business out of Atlanta, GA, has a mission: to create pet portraits that also function as stand alone art. Says Companion Comics portrait artist Larkyn Simony-Choplin:
"Most pet portraits are very meaningful to the family of the pet, but outside of those who know the animal, these portraits don't have much bite. Our goal at Companion Comics is to create pet portraits that anyone can enjoy. Our portraits are funny and entertaining, and utilize a strong graphic style similar to that which is found in comic books and graphic novels."
Companion Comics' portraits take an aspect of a pet's personality, and play it up in the exaggerated style of pulp novel covers and comic books. For example, a dog featured on the business' website, Helen, is, according to her owners, well behaved except when it comes to newspapers. She chews them up. Helen's portrait features Helen, wearing an old-time jail hat, with a spotlight shone on her face, ripping up a newspaper. The ominous text across the top reads: "Sometimes even good dogs go bad..."
Companion Comics portraits are available as archival fine art prints on paper or canvas. Available framed and unframed, and in a variety of sizes, Companion Comics offers options for many different budgets. These portraits make a strong statement, and are great gifts for the holidays.
