UPDATE: Guinness World Record Attempt for the longest drumming marathon - individual, by Jagjit Singh, resident of Greater Toronto Area (Oct. 3-7, 2007)
Brampton, ON, Canada
Jagjit Singh is a man on musical mission and is about to set Guinness world record for the longest drumming marathon tomorrow at 11pm EST. Eighty Three hours have surpassed and Singh is still in high spirits to finish his aim of playing Tabla (pair of drums played by hands) for 110 hours. Singh, a devout Sikh, is not concerned about experiencing pain or discomfort from beating his drums non-stop for long hours.
By profession, Jagjit Singh is a local Tabla teacher in Brampton, ON. He began his Tabla days as a young student of world famous Late Ustad Alla Rakha Khan, and later his son, Ustad Zakir Hussain. Recently, Ustad Zakir Hussain had a Tabla concert at Hummingbird Centre in Toronto, ON.
Singh's students and the community members will be on hand much of the time to cheer Singh.
