Anil Agrawal's Desi Driving School is the only one in Richardson that offers the Drug and Alcohol Driving Awareness Program, a six-hour component of a state-certified driver training course. The Richardson driving instructor backs up his philosophy every day, teaching teens not only how to drive, but how not to.
And when it comes to the influence of drugs and alcohol, Mr. Agrawal has a powerful tool to help get the message across.
The Drug and Alcohol Driving Awareness Program is a six-hour component of a state-certified driver training course.
According to the Texas Education Agency, the educational objectives of the program include:
• Teaching the risks and problems associated with alcohol and drug abuse.
• Providing information on the physiological and psychological effects of alcohol and drugs.
• Explaining the legal aspects of alcohol and drug use.
• Talking about the effects of alcohol and drugs on driving.
• Listing the signs of abuse.
• Helping participants to develop a plan to reduce the odds that they will be involved in situations that mix driving with alcohol and drugs.
Mr. Agrawal's Desi Driving School is the only Richardson business to offer the program.
Forty percent of vehicular crashes in the U.S. are alcohol-related, Mr. Agrawal said.
