United States of America (Press Release) October 10, 2007 --
The Lehigh Dialogue Center organized a community gathering to mark the end of Ramadan and to celebrate Eid ul-Fitr with festivities. The event will take place at Palmer Township Charles Chrin Community Center with Morning Prayer, free food, speeches, gift exchanges and live performances by children club. Eid ul-Fitr (“Festival of Fast-Breaking”) is a day of joy and thanksgiving for over 1 billion Muslims worldwide and 8 million in the USA.
Eid ul-Fitr signifies the end of Ramadan, which is the month of fasting to learn discipline, self-restraint and generosity, while obeying God's commandments. On this day, Muslims greet and embrace each other in a spirit of peace and love. They also pay visits to the homes of relatives and friends to thank God for all blessings and show their joy for the health, strength and opportunities of life. It is considered unholy to fast on this day. It is also a day of forgetting old grudges and ill feelings towards other fellow men.
Abdullah Bozkurt, the President of the Lehigh Dialogue Center said “this is a day of forgiveness, moral victory, peace, fellowship, renewed friendships, brotherhood and unity.” “These are values that are important for everyone – Muslim and non-Muslim – to reflect on” He added. Mr. Bozkurt also stressed that “it is especially important for all of us to come together, across different communities, to reinforce common bonds of respect that we owe to all our fellow human beings.”
