United States of America (Press Release) October 11, 2007 --
James Fontanetta, a Wall Street veteran and former senior vice president with Wit Capital Corporation (widely recognized as the industry's first online investment bank) focuses on those who can't speak out for themselves.
Since being exposed to what they experience, Mr. Fontanetta spends his weekends and free time helping homeless, sick, abandoned, injured and abused cats and dogs.
"I really believe that if we put ourselves in one of these animals shoes and experience what they go through just for a little while, your outlook on certain things and priorities will change. I was naive like most people, and I would drive or run by an animal who probably hasn't eaten or had anything to drink in weeks - not thinking anything of it. Being exposed to what they really go through, I now think, 'How can I not at least do a little something every day?'"
There are many things that every day people can do to make a big difference like Mr. Fontanetta. For one thing, for those who want to buy a new dog or cat, visit animals shelters - it is a myth that they only have mutts. Often find purebreed dogs such as poodles and yorkies, along with cats can be found, a good percentage of which are actually purebreeds.
There is never a reason to buy an expensive dog or cat from a breeder. Many of these stores get their puppies from "puppy mills" where they and their mothers are subjected to a cruel inhumane environment. Not only that, there is an overwhelming number of unwanted pets in shelters waiting for good homes - many friendly cats and dogs who will become loyal lifetime friends.
Many people only want to adopt kittens from shelters, but the truth is there are plenty of very affectionate grown cats that can add a lot of happiness to life. A grown cat is also easier to take care of and more calm. This is good for people who spend a lot of hours at work, and the cat will be alone at home. Cats are very self sufficient and don't require a lot of work. They just require love - like all pets.
Aside from adoption, simply feed the starving animals that one encounters. Chances are cats sniffing through garbage are hungry; go out and bring them some food. If the animals are fed at the same spot every day, they will become accustomed to it. Don't assume someone else will feed it - the reality is that no one else will feed it consistently. Imagine going day to day, not knowing where the next meal came will come from, eating bits and leftover scraps every day. Everyone has the power to help just by feeding consistently every day. In less than a month, there are visible signs that skinny cat's life has been impacted, when it looks healthier.
