Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions, announces that anti-phishing databases provided by the PhishTank service have been incorporated into the Anti-Phishing module of Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0.
The PhishTank service, run byOpenDNS, offers a consolidated database of known fishing websites which is continually updated by the Open Source community and ordinary users. Kaspersky Lab has been a participant of this project for a long time, submitting information about phishing resources to the PhishTank database.
Until now, the principal source of anti-phishing data used in Kaspersky Lab products included databases provided by the Anti-Phishing Working Group, of which Kaspersky Lab is a member. Kaspersky Lab products also use data from other sources including security services of financial organizations which independently track phishing resources. With the addition of the PhishTank databases, the range of anti-phishing data sources has become even broader. This will help to significantly improve the quality of protection from phishing attacks offered to users.
"We are glad to include the data provided by PhishTank among the phishing databases used in our Anti-Phishing module. In the relatively short time since the launch of PhishTank, it has developed into a powerful resource that greatly contributes to the cause of combating online fraud. The PhishTank anti-phishing databases will enable us to offer more effective protection from attacks of cybercriminals for users of our products. We not only take advantage of the services provided by PhishTank, but also actively support this resource by providing it with all the information about phishing resources that is available to us," says Nikolay Grebennikov, deputy director of Innovative Technologies at Kaspersky Lab.
In summer 2007, PhishTank granted Kaspersky Lab a "Star Phish Award" "in recognition of its contribution to the cause of combating phishing".
