United States of America (Press Release) October 15, 2007 --
Appearing at Smith’s Olde Bar in Atlanta, GA on Oct. 30th
New York, NY – September 10, 2007 - Blue Rodeo announce their Blue Rodeo & Friends tour featuring Ron Sexsmith, Luke Doucet, and an additional guest, to coincide with the release of their new record, Small Miracles – out on October 30th in the U.S. on the band’s own label TeleSoul Records distributed by Redeye Distribution.
The tour will feature all acts playing together as one band sharing each others’ songs. Inspired by Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue, Blue Rodeo & Friends started as an semi annual event on New Year’s Eve in Toronto where the band invites artists, some well known, some not so well known, that they admire to join them on stage and sing their own songs while Blue Rodeo acts as their band, blending in Blue Rodeo material along the way. Some of the artists that have participated include: Kathleen Edwards, Sarah Harmer, Jane Siberry, Gord Downie (Tragically Hip), Ron Sexsmith, The Sadies, among many others.
Beginning in October, Blue Rodeo & Friends will hit the road touring the North Eastern United States - including a performance on November 1st at the Americana Music Conference, the premiere event for alt-country artists, in Nashville, TN.
With the release of Small Miracles, we find a great band in their prime still pushing their musical boundaries to deliver songs that are familiar while still feeling fresh and new. They have obviously reached deep within themselves to the place where the hearts and souls of these players meet, to tell us stories filled with hope, heartbreak and passion.
It was the mid-seventies when Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor first met each other in high school. After discovering a mutual love of music, they formed an “amphetamine pop band” called the HiFi's. The pair moved to New York City in 1981 and tried to land a recording contract. Three years later they returned to Toronto without a deal but discovered a burgeoning club scene where acts like k.d. Lang, The Cowboy Junkies and Jeff Healey were honing their chops. Through a series of chance meetings and the classified ads, Jim and Greg formed Blue Rodeo.
Since the release of their debut album, Outskirts, in March 1987, Blue Rodeo have established themselves as one of the premiere bands in Canadian music history. They have released ten studio albums, one live album, a Greatest Hits collection, and an award winning DVD, selling in excess of 4 million copies and have received rave reviews from critics around the world.
“Cuddy and Keelor are gifted melodists,” wrote the The New York Times,” if as many bands played with the honesty and passion of Blue Rodeo, this would be a different world indeed, said Rolling Stone, and the praise continues
