United States of America (Press Release) October 16, 2007 --
INDIANAPOLIS – Scott Swerland describes himself as a serial entrepreneur. Since graduating from college, the 37-year-old Seattle native has managed a host of successful start-up businesses. But in 2004, he set his sights on the indoor tanning industry.
Backed by investors who helped launch Starbucks, Amazon.com and Costco, Swerland opened his first Seattle Sun Tan salon in Bellevue, a Seattle suburb. In the last two years, he has opened salons in Redmond and Seattle’s University Village. In the near future, Swerland plans to open even more salons in the Seattle area.
“In this business, you have to have a high level of energy, passion for the industry and dedication to customers. You also have to love what you do,” he said. “And I do. I’m surrounded by people who come into my salon happy and leave happy. There’s nothing better than that.”
Seattle Sun Tan salons are among the first in the nation to receive a top quality salon award from ETS Tan, the world’s largest manufacturer of tanning beds and tanning bed equipment. Friday, ETS Tan debuted its new “5 Star Salon” award at the Indoor Tanning Association’s 2007 Tanning World Expo.
ETS Tan (http://www.etstan.com) created the rating to recognize proven, innovative and professional salons that feature indoor tanning. The rating commends salons for being established and reputable businesses, promoting smart tanning in a clean environment staffed by skin care professionals, carrying the best equipment and products and proving that customer service is high on their priority lists. To receive a 5 Star Salon rating, a salon must:
-- Be in business for one year;
-- Offer a complete range of ETS Tan tanning beds and equipment;
-- Have a clean and organized environment; and
-- Have a professionally trained staff of customer-oriented employees who provide tanning and skin care consultations.
“5 Star Salon locations offer more than just indoor tanning,” said ETS Tan CEO Bill Pipp. “With this distinction, we are identifying the best salons in the country that provide the highest quality of products and services and strive to create a pleasant atmosphere and experience for all customers.”
Other 5 Star Salon locations recognized Friday:
-- Studio Tan: Fort Wayne, Ind.
-- True Colors: New Albany, Sellersburg, Scottsburg, Jeffersonville, Georgetown and Floyds Knobs, Ind.
