Patients with untreated sleep apnea have slower reaction times than people who are legally drunk. An article in JAMA showed that people who snore are three time more likely to have motor vehicle accidents than non-snorers.

A study presented at the American Thoracic Society showed a 300% increase in motor vehicle accidents involving severe bodily injury in patients with mild to moderate apnea even when there were no symptoms of tiredness.
Recent studies have shown that 7 1/2 hours of cpap is necessary for effective treatment. Studies have shown that only 23-45 % of patients prescribed CPAP use it and on average ony use it for 4-5 hours. CPAP is an excellent treatment when patients use it regularly.
