OriginsUSA Celebrates United Nations Day

(Free-Press-Release.com) October 20, 2007 -- OriginsUSA, an organization dedicated to natural family preservation, fully and unequivocally supports UNICEF’s and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UN CRC)'s positions on inter-country, as well as domestic adoption. We urge the United States to ratify the UN CRC as well as the Hague Convention, which sets standards for international adoption as set by the UN.

We support the recent moratorium of Guatemalan adoptions and respect the rights and autonomy of any nation to cease in allowing their children to leave their nation to fill a demand for children. We support the “adoption as a last resort” position of UNICEF and further deplore poverty as the only reason for family separation.

We fully support UNICEF’s position that "every child has the right to know and be cared for by his or her own parents, whenever possible. Recognizing this, and the value and importance of families in children’s lives, UNICEF believes that families needing support to care for their children should receive it, and that alternative means of caring for a child should only be considered when, despite this assistance, a child’s family is unavailable, unable or unwilling to care for him or her. The best interest of children in providing such care does not involve severing them from their connection to their original family, their name or their heritage.”

The UN CRC further recognizes that children who are not able to live with their parents have the right to maintain contact. (Article 9.3)
