United Kingdom of Great Britain & N. Ireland (Press Release) October 21, 2007 --
The official line is the hugely successful author of Da Vinci Code; is still busy working hard on his next blockbuster and remains unavailable for interview. Which means it will be great news for conspiracy lovers everywhere, that author David J Grant has launched ‘The Treaty’ bang on time. Published by Samosir Books, this conspiracy thriller links a senior member of the British royal family and a US President to a narcotic treaty dating back to the 1960's.
Despite the delay, fans still eagerly await Brown’s book, predicted for publication in spring 2008. Other rumours suggest this will be the third book to include Robert Langdon, the fictional Harvard University professor.
David J Grant the British author of The Treaty links Britain’s drug dealing history, and the control and influence governments and individuals have over markets for illegal drugs. Based on research conducted by the United Nations, the illegal drugs industry is worth anything up to $300 billion dollars a year at retail level and with 93% of all opiates now coming from Afghanistan. Britain was a leading supplier of opium, for 150 years. Grants novel is at times quite disturbing, involving both murder and tragedy revealing real life characters in the plot. The reader gains a new insight into the personality and early life of Prince Philip before he married and sets out the case as to why such a high profile man could ever become involved in such a conspiracy. We discover Prince Philip had a disturbing and lonely childhood with a high degree of insecurity, stemming from his own family background. Other important characters include both American Presidents Nixon and George Bush Senior.
After a dramatic introduction in the first chapter then at the home of Publisher Dominic Marsh, we meet a young Argentinean au pair called Maria Farnese and Andrew Davies. Andy is a thirty something telecoms specialist who, while travelling home unexpectedly meets with Maria during a violent thunderstorm. Davies suffers a minor injury to his foot, caused by Maria and accepts her offer of a bed for the night. This is the weekend her boss and his wife are staying away and when Andy makes his discovery finding a copy of The Treaty. Only later does Andy begin to realize the significance of the documents. In the course of the next few days, he travels to Europe and later to the Far East. During each journey, he experiences a new revelation when tragedy strikes.
