Delphian School Students Clean Up Local Streets

On Saturday, September 29, 2007, over 100 students from the Delphian School in Sheridan, Oregon volunteered for community service in the towns of Sheridan and McMinnville. Delphian Middle School Student Council elected to do gardening and visit with residents at Sheridan’s Deer Meadow Assisted Living facility, while upper school students split into two groups: one group headed for Sheridan and the other for McMinnville. About 20 Delphian School students picked up trash along Bridge Street in Sheridan, while another 50 high school students lent a hand to the city of McMinnville. On Third Street in McMinnville, Delphian School volunteers threw their backs into raking leaves, picking up litter, and sweeping sidewalks; still others rallied at the Head Start school, where they washed windows and painted lines for parking spaces in the newly paved parking lot. Not to be outdone, two other groups helped sort and organize clothing and other items at the St. Vincent de Paul thrift store, and cleaned up trash at the Salvation Army store and church.

"Contribution to the community is an intrinsic part of Delphi's program," said school services coordinator John Glenski. "It's something that our students take great pride in, as they can see that their efforts truly make a difference."
