United States of America (Press Release) October 25, 2007 --
Two students, Corey Cohen and Russel Falkenstein, founded a company that Corey claims has been "strengthening the acadmic community at The George Washington University." Called GWClassNotes.com, it is in the process of acquiring notetakers as well as selling notes for classes the compny already has in its database. When asked which notes they plan on focusing to sell Corey replied "We are principally going to work with classes that have a student population of over one hundred. In attending lectures of that nature students can often be left confused due to a lack of interaction with the professor."
Students who work for the company will receive a 20% commission on their sales as well as access to the database for life. This presents an opportunity for many students who already take good notes to get paid for going to class.
As for the future, Corey explained that he envisions "thirty to fifty students" taking notes for his company; wanting to offer notes for approximately seventy classes. The idea although considered ethically dubious by some professors is one that likens itself to notetaking services at other universities such as BU, Cornell, Indiana, and the University of Florida.
