Australian Patent and Set to Revolutionise Global Mail

(Free-Press-Release.com) October 29, 2007 -- An innovative electronic Letterbox (eLetterbox) has been granted an Innovation Patent by the Australian Government patent authority, IP Australia and is set to bring about the most radical change in the secure postal delivery of essential mail since Charles I ‘opened’ the Royal Mail for use by the public in 1635.

eLetterbox, developed by David Holton, Managing Director of Melbourne based Profile Marketing highlighted that further to the granting of the Australian Innovation Patent, the International Examiner of the World Intellectual Property Organisation has issued a favourable report which means that through the Patent Cooperation Treaty we will be afforded global Patent rights and protection in 137 signatory countries” which is an exciting and also humbling opportunity.

“People are inundated with irrelevant communications, spam, and wary about engagement, whether it’s paper-based or electronic due to identity and security fraud concerns. The current systems of mail delivery variously do not meet the individuals need for our future.”

Holton says “It is important to make the distinction that this is not another email application, but an e-postal delivery solution”.

eLetterbox is described by Holton as being “a one-way e-delivery gateway, as is the physical mail network today – but it is entirely permissions based. It’s transportable, simple, secure, guaranteed spam-free, and cost effective and is unaffected by a changing e-mail or physical addresses. This is also a huge opportunity to reduce the environmental impact through the reduction of paper and other associated inputs of mail today. It becomes a true ‘mailbox for life’!”

“The principle is enabling the consumer to determine relevance and to take control of their communications, and having the power and security to dictate how, what and when they receive any direct correspondence” says Holton.

To provide some context of scale, in the UK, Royal Mail indicates primary transaction billing in the UK having combined revenues (including production and mail) of around £1.5 billion per annum (Approx AUS $3.67 billion). This translates to a European market of around £10 billion (AUS $24.5 billion), and US revenues of around £20 billion (AUS $49 billion) – per annum.

“In Australia alone, delivering bills electronically through eLetterbox would mean savings upward from $100 million per week let alone the ecological savings . One way or another, consumers ultimately bear that cost, so if businesses provide an incentive for essential mail to be accessed via eLetterbox, then the savings for the consumer could be significant for the average family.”

Negotiations are being held with several interested global development partners in Japan, North America, and Europe and Mr Holton expected to be able to name the development partner soon.
