(Vancouver, BC) MediQuest Technologies CEO Chris Metcalfe announced today that Teekay would be outfitting more than 100 ships in their global fleet with state-of-the-art Defibtech Lifeline Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) from the Vancouver company. The move further demonstrates Teekay’s commitment to being one of the safest fleets in the world. Teekay's deployment of life-saving AEDs will include instruction for their staff in their proper use along with information on proper CPR technique.
ABOUT AEDs
The Defibtech Lifeline AED is the most recent generation of "smart" life-saving defibrillators which can detect when a person’s heart is in cardiac arrest, and immediately deliver a life saving shock if required.
The user only needs to know how to turn it on and place the "pads" which are connected to the person's chest. The AED talks the rescuer through the rest of the steps depending on what it analyzes for a heart rhythm. Knowing how to perform CPR goes hand-in hand with using the AED so some
instruction is needed, but today in many places children as young as 11 are learning how to use an AED to save lives.
"Teekay is putting the safety of their people at the top of their priority list. I applaud Teekay for their commitment to look after their people in preventing the fatalities that can result from a cardiac emergency." Said MediQuest CEO Chris Metcalfe.
"There is a great deal of interest in having defibrillators made available not just in Teekay offices but to our colleagues who serve at sea on our ships. Just like fire extinguishers, an AED is one of those things that can make the difference between the loss of someone's life and a successfully resolved emergency." stated Paul Labine, Health and Safety Coordinator with Teekay.
