India, Republic of (Press Release) October 31, 2007 --
"Solid Edge already has the ability to read and write AutoCAD DWG and DXF files", explains Deelip Menezes, owner of SYCODE. “However, this ability is severely limited to 2D DWG/DXF files only. When importing DWG/DXF files, Solid Edge ignores 3D objects such as solids, bodies and regions and creates a 2D drawing document from the 2D curves present in the file. Moreover, Solid Edge cannot export parts or assemblies to DWG/DXF files. It can only create DWG/DXF files from its own 2D drawings. This makes 3D DWG/DXF files pretty much useless to Solid Edge users. Our AutoCAD 3D interoperability add-ins for Solid Edge are designed to remove this limitation and give Solid Edge users the ability to read and write 3D DWG/DXF files."
The AutoCAD 3D interoperability add-ins for Solid Edge are:
(1) DWG Import for Solid Edge - DWG import add-in
(2) DXF Import for Solid Edge - DXF import add-in
(3) DWG Export for Solid Edge - DWG export add-in
(4) DXF Export for Solid Edge - DXF export add-in
The DWG/DXF import add-ins read 3D solid geometry from DWG/DXF files and creates corresponding solid bodies in a Solid Edge part or assembly document. The DWG/DXF export add-ins reads solid bodies in an Solid Edge part or assembly document and create corresponding 3D solid geometry objects in a DWG/DXF file. The export add-ins also allow solid bodies to be exported as meshes in the DWG/DXF file. This is particularly useful when exporting 3D data to CAD systems that do not read ACIS solids in AutoCAD files. These add-ins can read and write DWG and DXF files up to the latest version of AutoCAD.
The AutoCAD 3D interoperability add-ins are priced at 195 EUR each and are available as fully functional 10 day/run trials. The software comes with detailed documentation in the form of a compiled HTML help file which contains a step-by-step tutorial to get the end user started in the shortest possible time.
Detailed information about these add-ins and trial downloads can be found at http://www.sycode.com/products/index.htm.
About Solid Edge
A fundamental component of the UGS Velocity Series portfolio, Solid Edge delivers an exceptional return on investment for a low total cost of ownership. With a unique 4-step process for evolving to the productive world of 3D, superior core modeling, embedded design management, built in finite element analysis, and process workflows, Solid Edge delivers the benefits of a fully integrated and managed design discipline that eases the growing complexity of product design. Solid Edge harnesses the power of Parasolid® - the modeling kernel owned and developed by UGS and, at more than a million licensed seats, the de-facto standard for 3D mechanical CAD.
