St. Kitts Newspaper Integrity Eroded

(Free-Press-Release.com) November 2, 2007 -- St. Kitts' main opposition political party, the People's Action Movement (PAM), suffered a tremendous loss of integrity and respect, when on Friday (11/2/2007), the St. Kitts-Nevis High Court ruled against it's mouthpiece, The Democrat, in a libel suit brought against it by Labour MP Asim Martin, his campaign manager, and the editor of the Labour Spokesman.

Justice Francis Belle awarded the Labour MP Asim Martin, his campaign manager Earle Clarke, and Spokesman newspaper editor Dawud Byron, a total sum of $168,000.00 in damages ($70,000, $50,000, $48,000 respectively) plus $38,500.00 ($14,000, $12,500, $12,000 respectively) in legal fees, all to be paid for by The Democrat.

The integrity of The Democrat has been chiseled at before and now appears to be at its lowest ebb after losing numerous libel battles in very recent times. The Democrat has recently come under much scrutiny for its false impressions of the safety and security of the Nation, an article that has outraged the International investment community and citizens living at home and abroad.
