New York, NY, November 5, 2007 – The Omega Ensemble, www.omegaensemble.com, a non-profit chamber music group whose mission is to introduce outstanding young artists to the public, hosts a free “Gift to the City” concert at the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church www.fapc.org at 7 West 55th Street in New York City on Sunday, November 18th at 3 p.m..
“It is important that all New Yorkers have a chance to hear chamber music performed live by outstanding musicians,” said Doris Konig, Artistic Director, Omega Ensemble. “By offering this ‘Gift to the City,’ we hope to attract a new generation of fans to chamber music while offering our gratitude to our patrons who have made this concert possible.”
The “Gift to the City” concert will include Fauré’s Elegy, Mihaud’s Suite for Violin, Clarinet and Piano, Manuel de Falla’s Suite populaire Espagnole, and Beethoven’s Sonata in F Major, Op. 24. Featured young artists include:
Arnaud Sussmann, violinist – 22 year old Arnaud Sussman is quickly becoming a rising star as he has won several international competitions and performed at major concert halls.
Lin Zhu, cellist - Born in Shanghai, 27-year old Zhu Lin attended the Shanghai Conservatory of Music for Cello studies. Ms. Zhu is recipient of various globally recognized prizes, including the International Artist Competition, Juilliard Cello Concerto Competition, and Third National Cello Competition of China.
Featured ensemble members of the Omega Ensemble include:
Jean Kopperud, clarinetist and Omega Ensemble member since 1981, who has toured internationally as a concert soloist and chamber musician. Ms. Kopperud performs with the New York New Music Ensemble, the ISCM Ensemble and is a faculty member of the Juilliard School.
Doris Konig is a pianist and founding member of the Omega Ensemble, Ms. Konig has been the Artistic Director of the Omega Ensemble since 1977. She received her Masters in Music with honors from Indiana University and was the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship for study in Berlin. Ms Konig has given concerts in Carnegie’s Weill Hall, Merkin Hall, the New York Cultural Center, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Philips Collection in Washington DC.
