Willoughby Hills, Ohio (November 6, 2007) – In a landslide victory, Council President Robert Weger triumphed tonight in his bid to become Willoughby Hills’ next mayor, defeating incumbent Mayor Kenneth Lorenz, 84 percent to 16 percent.*

Candidates for City Council who ran on the Weger ticket, Team Willoughby Hills, were elected by overwhelming majorities. Incumbent Councilman Kevin Malecek (District 3) won with 82 percent of the vote, Councilman Ray Somich (District 2) was re-elected with 79 percent of the vote, and Councilman Frank Germano (District 1) was elected with 97 percent. Newcomer David Fiebig won an At-Large seat on Council by 79 percent of the vote.*

In a stinging rebuke against negative campaigning, voters provided a clear mandate to Mayor-Elect Weger and to City Council. Mayor-Elect Weger and his team ran a positive campaign, the centerpiece of which was a return to civility at City Hall, a pledge to ensure fiscal responsibility, and a broad-based “Residents First” plan to improve City services.

“Today, the voters of Willoughby Hills had their voices heard loud and clear. In the past, we’ve been promised that dignity would be restored to government in our City. With this election, that promise will become reality,” said Mayor-Elect Weger. “I am committed to a full and complete review of all City finances, and to implementing our ‘Residents First’ plan to improve services for all City residents. I thank everyone who voted in this election today, regardless of how they voted. I pledge to represent all of the people of our City.”
