Singapore, Republic of (Press Release) November 7, 2007 --
Singapore, 7 November 2007 – Even before the start of this year’s event, Reed Exhibitions has received confirmed bookings for an expanded Asia Television Forum (ATF) in 2008. The 2008 ATF will be held from 10 to 12 December at a larger venue, the Suntec International Convention & Exhibition Centre, Singapore. In tandem with the increasing popularity of the event, ATF’s current hosted buyers program will be expanded and enhanced to guarantee an increase in quality buyers for all participants.
Every year, ATF attracts the key buyers from around Asia, including Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, Singapore, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Australia, Middle East and more. Over 85% of these buyers contacted have already confirmed their attendance for ATF 2008.
According to Mr Choi Sang-Ryool, Deputy Director, Contents Development & Acquisition/Media Division, Korea Telecom Corporation, “We’ve always been very impressed with the quality of content available at the market. We’ll definitely be back for 2008.”
"ATF is a very important market for us. We have been a part of its success since it was launched in 2000 and it just gets better every year." said Mr Krissada Trishnananda, Head of International Program Acquisitions, Bangkok Broadcasting & TV Co., Ltd. (BBTV), Thailand
“ATF is the definitive event for the media industry in Asia. We hope to be part of this event every year.” said Mrs Datin Zainab Hj Abdul Manaf, Planning and Acquisition Manager, Radio Television Brunei (RTB).
“We’re impressed by the vibrancy of the market and the strength of the international representation.” Mr Neil Chakravarti, Executive Vice-President & Business Head - Zee English Channels, Zee Entertainment, India
ATF has continually attracted the support of international heavyweights including Disney-ABC International Television, CBS Paramount Television, Lions Gate Entertainment and NBC Universal Television Distribution. In addition, the ATF has also welcomed national groups from Australia, France, Spain, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Malaysia.
According to Mr Michael Kang, Global Marketing Head, Korean Broadcasting Institute, “Asia Television Forum is a very productive market for our Korean companies. The number of requests and appointments we had at last year’s market was phenomenal. We attracted a great deal of interest from the buyers, resulting in many co-production tie-ups and deals. We look forward to more business deals at ATF this year. In fact, we have already signed up for 2008.”
This confidence is echoed by Mr Adam Ham, Multimedia Development Corporation, Malaysia “We are extremely fascinated about participating in Asia Television Forum for the first time, because we have received numerous requests for appointments from foreign clients to discuss further about possible co-production and distribution opportunities. Do expect a significant number of Malaysian Buyers & Sellers to be part of our national contingent this year and increasingly in the future.”
ATF has seen phenomenal programme sales growth over the years. More than US$47 million worth of deals were concluded last year, surpassing 2005’s US$33 million by 42%. With expected market growth of more than 10% this year, ATF 2007 looks set to be yet another record breaker.
According to Ms Michelle Lim, General Manager for Reed Exhibitions, “ATF has proven itself again and again, for the past 7 years. It is an event created by the industry, for the industry”.
“Throughout the years, we have made strategic changes to keep us relevant with industry developments. To meet demands for increased space, ATF will be moving to Suntec in 2008, where we will be offering a suite-style exhibition concept. Customised to meet industry needs and budgets, this flexible arrangement will ensure a higher return of investment for our customers. The response from the industry has been very encouraging, with over 45% of the 2008 space sold so far and another 30% expected at ATF 07,” continued Ms Lim.
ATF 2008 will be an exciting year ahead for the industry. In the words of Mr James Ross, Regional Director for Granada International, "We continue to see the Asia Television Forum as an excellent opportunity to meet clients from all over the region especially those from South East Asia and India. We always see significant interest across all genres especially formats. We will definitely be back in 2008."
ATF has been anchored in Singapore since its inception in 2000. Singapore’s unique East-West cosmopolitan culture, extensive infrastructure and burgeoning talent base makes it an ideal gateway for media professionals to bring their products and services onto the world’s screen.
