Gangs on the Rise in Chapel Hill High School in Douglasville, GA

On Thursday November 1, 2007 a fight ensued at Chapel Hill High School. According to Ameta Cartwright, her son Eric Goodall had been harassed recently by a few boys from the school. In the midst of the fight that was partially recorded on videotape, Roshelle Hill, a teacher, jumped in and broke up the scuffle. While pulling one boy off of Eric Goodall another boy also struck Eric. Mrs. Cartwright also stated that her son had never been in trouble and was a good student. Jason Branch, the principal has categorized the incident as a Level 1 offense and have removed all three boys involved from the school pending the outcome of a Tribunal and since the teacher who broke up the fight is claiming to have been hit while breaking up the fight, criminal charges have also been filed against all three boys. While investigating this case I spoke to another current student who says they were also jumped and beaten by a gang of 10 to 20 boys, some who attend Chapel Hill High School. The student said that they did not want their name mentioned but that gang activity is a very big problem at the school. Mrs. Cartwright says that school official Jennifer Bagget urged her to sign a document that stated her son assaulted a teacher. She did not sign the document and has since secured an attorney to handle the case. A court date has been set for Tuesday, November 13th at 2:00 PM at the Douglas County Courthouse and a Tribunal is set for Thursday, November 15th at the Douglas County Board of Education Bldg.
