United States of America (Press Release) November 9, 2007 --
Reacting to Pat Robertson's endorsement of Rudy Giuliani's presidential bid, Arnon Krongrad, MD, pioneer of laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, had this to say:
"In the end, we are men and women. Regardless of political orientation and personal philosophy, we are vulnerable. As we consider our common humanity, we are struck by what unites us far more than what splits us apart. In the case of Robertson and Giuliani, we are talking about prostate cancer. The two chose different prostate cancer treatments: Dr. Robertson had prostate cancer surgery. Rudy Giuliani had prostate brachytherapy. Any man can have prostate problems. As these two prominent Americans have shown, be it by prostate removal or prostate cancer radiation treatments, you can beat prostate cancer, the most common cancer of men. When we work together, with the sensitivity and compassion that all patients deserve, everybody wins. These two men understand that."
