Website Claims You Can Cheat at Online Poker
In the wake of the cheating scandal at Absolute Poker, comes a website that claims they can show you exactly how to set up your computer system to cheat when playing Internet poker.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) November 11, 2007 --
In the wake of the recent scandal at Absolute Poker, the poker world is once again abuzz about online cheating. Against this high-profile backdrop, comes a website -- PokerCheatingSystem.com -- that makes the bold assertion that, yes, you can cheat at online poker. And the site offers to sell you step-by-step instructions on a way to set up your computer system to cheat when playing poker on the Internet.
As to whether or not cheating online is even possible, opinions vary. According to poker authority Byron Badd, writing for Gambling911: "Cheating at online poker really doesn’t happen that often. You hear all the time that people feel they got cheated, but more often than not it is a complaint about a bad beat. Cheating will always be part of poker whether it is online or at a local cardroom, but it usually doesn’t happen very often and is not something you need to worry about when you are at the table." An opposing view is expressed by Jonathan M. Katz in Slate Magazine: "In an anonymous world where everyone is after your money, and where lying and preying on the weak are encouraged, it's easy to get paranoid that others are cheating. And in fact, others are cheating." As far as detecting these cheaters, Steven D. Levitt writing for the New York Times blog, says this: "One of the projects I’ve been engaged in lately is trying to catch players who are cheating in online poker. It turned out to be harder than I thought it would to catch online poker cheats."
In recent years, the usual question has been: Is cheating online possible? And the widely-accepted answer among supposedly knowledgeable individuals has been: No. Now, following the Absolute Poker debacle, the question being asked is more like: Since cheating is happening, how might I protect myself from being cheated? Or maybe even this question: Since cheating is all around me, how can I, myself, cheat?
Curiously, it seems as if the people behind this poker-cheating website do not want you to order their product. The site actually says that if you are squeamish about the idea of cheating, then "please leave this website right now, and do not come back." Timmor L. White, the chief operator of the website, offers these thoughts: "Cheating, even when possible, is never advisable. Cheating is immoral and despicable. A cheater, at poker or any other area of life, is a person to be despised. There is nothing admirable or cool about a cheater. The best advice is this: If you don't know how to cheat, don't learn. If you do know how to cheat, don't do it anyway."
On first glance, a visitor to this website might mistakenly conclude that they give you a program to install on your computer. Not so. They are not marketing software, and none is included with their product. They are offering only an instruction manual which gives the steps to follow in order to cheat. A careful study of the website reveals a representation of the "eBook" you receive, and they do explicitly state that they are selling only information, not software. But this caution is worth mentioning, since a first impression might be that they are offering software.
As of this writing, the website is available and operational. If you want to study the matter of online-poker cheating, whether out of a sense of curiosity or a desire to play the game unfairly yourself, this website may be worth a look. To check it out, visit www.PokerCheatingSystem.com.
