United States of America (Press Release) November 14, 2007 --
My best friend called me today saying she had heard a rumor that YTB the travel company had lost their IATAN certification. For those of you not in the travel business, IATAN stands for International Airlines Travel Agent Network. Their mission statement as listed on their website: www.iatan.org states as follows:
“IATAN's mission is to promote professionalism, administer meaningful and impartial business standards, and to provide cost-effective products, services and educational programs that benefit the travel industry. Through the use of its informational and other resources, IATAN provides a vital link between the supplier community and the U.S. travel distribution network.”
The site goes further to state that an IATAN card “is the key to industry recognition, and is part of a worldwide program. It identifies US Airline Appointed Agency and Travel Sales Intermediary (TSI) Agency personnel”
So to most people they would say, big deal. But to a travel agent that is devastating. To not be certified mean s you cannot earn commissions. This is the heart and pulse of any travel company or agent. Commissions are the reason you are in the business.
My friend even went as far as to pull up the IATAN site and key in the ytb iatan number. It came back stating it was not active in their database, so she called them. If you want to hear the conversation, go to www.sunrisesunsetadventures.info/lostiatan or

Our hearts go out to all the ytb agents IF this is true.
