FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) November 16, 2007 -- On Thursday, November 22, more than 2,000 impoverished men, women and children will be served a homemade traditional Thanksgiving turkey dinner with all the trimmings at the Fred Jordan Mission, located at 445 Towne Avenue, on the corner of 5th and Towne, on Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles.

Hundreds of volunteers are preparing and serving 3,000 pounds of turkey, 70 gallons of gravy, 485 pounds of green beans, 600 pounds of candied yams, 450 pumpkin pies and 200 gallons of fruit punch for this extraordinary feast.

Underprivileged children will lead the way in creating Skid Row’s Gratitude List, with each guest and volunteer writing what they are thankful for the most. In past years, this list has stretched down several blocks as thousands of people on Skid Row share what they are thankful for. Just like children living on Skid Row, the original Pilgrims and Indians had very little; but nonetheless, their hearts and spirits were full of joy, hope and gratitude that should humble us all during this Thanksgiving season.

This year Fred Jordan Missions will give the neediest in our community something for which they can be truly thankful. In addition to serving their traditional Thanksgiving dinner, the Mission will distribute new clothing for adults, hygiene kits and food bags for all, school supplies for children and new shoes for babies and toddlers.

“The Mission’s annual Thanksgiving Banquet is a powerful statement to the needy that this community cares. Because Thanksgiving Day at the Mission is more than simply hungry people being fed. We see hope replacing despair, smiles replacing sadness. And we all catch a glimpse of the power of God’s love to touch and transform lives,” said Willie Jordan, President of Fred Jordan Mission.

The Fred Jordan Mission, open 365 days a year since 1944, provides nutritious meals for hungry families and after-school education for at-risk children; builds schools and hospitals and distributes food and clothing to people living on the street. The Mission is a non-profit, faith-based, educational and relief organization emphasizing education, job training, and self-reliance.
