United States of America (Press Release) November 20, 2007 --
November 20, 2007
If your interested in a true human interest story for your news dept., I have one for you.
I am a jewelry vendor in the Valley Indoor Swapmeet with about 350 other vendors selling anything from Diamond Jewelry (ME) to make-up and clothing, designer clothing, produce and plants. The swap meet was fought for in City Council and we lost to a 438-apartment development (just what Warner Center needs).
I have 17 years invested in this business as well as about 75 other vendors. We have been mislead by the owners of the swap meet by the owners for a while now, they’ve told us that they were diligently looking for another building to move us. Two weeks ago the owners passed out a flyer that told us we had to be out on January 2nd, 2008 and anything left after that date would be considered demolition. I understand business is business however I think the city displacing 400 or so separate businesses for 438 apartments are not only a bad judgment call by our city officials but a devastating loss to all the vendors here. We all are scattering to find new locations and some will not be able to provide livelihoods for their families. We could certainly use some press even though at this point it might only help us liquidate otherwise dead inventory.
This is a very up-scale operation with many movie and television customers as well as very affluent business people.
Thank You for any support you could give us.
